The 2007 Jets are looking to keep the momentum they established last year under Eric Mangini. I think they are in for some more trouble this year as their schedule is much tougher than last year. At some point Chad Pennington is probably going to go down to injury as last year was his first season as a pro that he played all 16 games. Although they did get RB Thomas Jones in the off-season I don’t believe the Jets will be able to score the necessary points to win week to week in the tough AFC.
They are establishing a very good offensive line which should be good for the next half decade in D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold. Both were starters in their rookie years and will only keep getting better.
On defense the Jets can play some very good games. They need to develop more of a pass rush to help keep the pressure of their linebackers and secondary. Their first round draft pick Darelle Revis should help bolster a promising squad on this side of the ball.
I think the Jets are still a year or two away from making a serious run at the Patriots for the AFC East. There is no doubt that they have a good nucleus in Mangini, the O-Line, and some young defensive players. Look for the Jets to upset one or two teams this year despite their brutal schedule.
